Roller Derby

Have you ever heard of roller derby? Honestly, I had never even heard about it until my friend Staci invited me to come with her and some other of our friends to watch a game out in DC. Apparently it is a "big deal" on the east coast. If you are like me, you may need the Wikipedia definition to understand what in the world it is:

"Contemporary roller derby is an American-invented contact sport with roots in sports entertainment. The game is based on formation roller skating around an oval track by two teams. Points are scored as the designated scoring player (the "jammer") of each team laps members of the opposing team, including its "blockers,"[1] hence offense and defense typically occur simultaneously.[2][3]"

It was "sports entertainment" that is for sure.

The pics are a little blurry, it was hard to catch them in action.

We cheered on the DC team and acted out some of the "moves" for ourselves...

Seriously, I don't think there was anything more exciting I could have done to spend a random Saturday afternoon in February. Thanks for inviting me Staci!

Wow, I can't belive how many people were actually there! Nascar (sp?) is a huge deal here, so Bry has taken Hyrum a few times, but it's still a mystery WHY it's such a big deal...
