Elder BallardToday Elder Ballard and Elder Cook visited Congress. During lunch, they spoke to many Capitol Hill staffers. It was a very unique and neat experience. They highlighted the importance of having integrity and acting with civility. Some of my favorite quotes included:
"You cannot underestimate the importance of religion and accountability to God in a Democracy."
"The United States needs good men and women to work in Government."
“Take every opportunity to lead and stand for things that are good.”
"The Constitution is an inspired document. It sets up checks and balances--which ends up with a variety of opinions. But if we lose civility and respect then that check and balance is in jeopardy and we lose something that is very precious in this country."
They also highlighted multiple times the importance of religious liberty. "Become committed to the free exercise of religion. You need to protect religious values and religious voice. The moment we lose that is the moment we go into decline."
They also mentioned how concerned they are over the country's moral decline. They said that it is over all “most important to build a strong marriage and family because that will be the strength of our country.”
It was such a spiritual and rare opportunity to be able to shake the hands of two modern day Apostles. Out of all the “famous” people I get to meet by working on the hill, this was definitely my favorite.

Awesome- Congrats Ali! What a neat experience. :)
That's awesome, Ali! We actually got to meet Elder Cook just last week. He set my Dad apart as a mission pres. Such a neat man. I was blown away when he made mention of his birthday (69th or 70th, I think) - he has such vitality and a youthfulness about him!
So cool! I love the quotes. You have the best job.
